Californication strippers12/26/2023 “Why must two men be confined to handshakes? What happens when that’s not enough?” And I loved Hank’s retort: “You come out of the closet.” Cute. Batesy kissing Hank smack on the lips, and then taking issue when Hank got annoyed.Holly’s reveal both sullied Lew’s name, and also made a whole lot of sense It was nice to hear his name on the show again. Hank throwing in a mention of Lew Ashby.Charlie’s plenty of fun, but something’s off with her. I don’t need another rape trial, but it would be great to have a story to sink our teeth into.Īnd I’m not referring to something like Charlie and Lizzie ( Camilla Luddington) the nanny. So where is this all going? Hank’s further estrangement from his family? I’m not sure I see how that would advance the story line in any way, shape, or form. Someone should teach her a little respect. Hank screws up plenty, but nothing short of neglect or abuse gives Becca the right to talk to him the way she oftentimes does nowadays. I’m tired of Karen getting on him all the time, but I’m really tired of hearing Becca complaining about how terrible he is. Only thing is, that was a really decent thing that Hank was trying to do, for everyone. That was great.īut it backfired on Hank, as I should have guessed it would. Holly clearly flirting with Tyler, right in front of Becca, Hank, and Karen, was rather funny, and I love how it led to Batesy flying across the room and tackling Holly for laying hands on Karen. Having such a disparate group sitting around and chatting is hilarious. I do enjoy all the awkward meals (and variations thereof) that take place on Californication. On the other hand, I didn’t really care for Holly, which made it difficult to appreciate the guest spot. Her brash character was a far cry from previous gigs on Joey and The Sopranos, which definitely shows some range. I was kind of mixed on Drea de Matteo’s appearance. The efforts Hank made to clean up after Richard said a lot about how much Hank still loves Karen. Kudos to Hank for risking his own shaky standing with his family in an effort to spare Karen some pain. And in the middle was Karen’s “I think I made a terrible mistake,” which closed last week’s episode on a semi-cliffhanger. This week it was Hank’s love for Karen that had him pretending to be dating a stripper named Holly ( Drea de Matteo). Last week Hank wrote a song with Kali, intermittently daydreaming about his early life with Karen. Last night was certainly more substantive than we’ve seen for a while now, but I’ll be a bit disappointed if in the end this season is solely about how big of a hole Hank can dig for himself. Californication is still just as good - and as nonsensical - as ever, but the show’s total lack of story this season leaves me puzzled. Rick: What, oh you don't rough 'em up? Well excuse me George Bailey.I don’t get it. | Rick Springfield: Nothing like the sound of a stripper's head on a hard-wood floor. Here's a look at a few of our favorite Californication quotes from the hour: Jackie: No more grinding up on middle-aged hard-ons for me, except for yours of course. I can't wait for this story line to come to an arc - let's get Karen back in there because you know she'll be kicking ass and taking names! it does make sense if the writers are just trying to drag out this storyline a bit further. Why doesn't he say anything? It just doesn't seem realistic or true to Hank's character. CALiFORNiCATiON: WESTSiDE TALES ALBUM by YaH-Ra, released 11 October 2022 1. Stacey asks Hank point blank if he loves Felicia - obviously he doesn't love Felicia, and things are falling apart left and right at the apartment, but he just doesn't say anything and waits to be saved by the arrival of Becca and Chelsea. Is that why he's having so much trouble breaking it off with them? He has so many great opportunities to just end things, especially in this episode, yet he doesn't do ANYTHING! But of course by being with these women and showing them how each of them is special, he's going to have them fall in love with him! Isn't that exactly what every woman is looking for?īut now that he's built up all these women, he's afraid to let them down, it seems. He did have good intentions with each of these women - with Jackie, he wanted to show her she had potential and could be more than just a stripper, with Jill he wanted her to have self-confidence again, and with Felicia, he wanted her to know that she deserved to be happy.
